MODEL RIVER MEZEN PROJECT PLANS FOR THE INCOMING YEAR
Annual results, areas of focus and plans for the upcoming year were discussed by the Working Group of the Sustainable Fish Resource Management in Cooperation with Local Communities: Model River Mezen project.
The Working Group members highlighted that in 2019 the previous experience of Udora district is used to disseminate and adapt in other districts – primarily in the Leshukonsky and Mezensky districts of Arkhangelsk Region, as well as in other districts of Komi.
The Working Group members mentioned the project progress and difficulties. In particular, the interregional program for the restoration and conservation of Atlantic salmon population in the basin of the Mezen River has not advanced significantly in practice. Nikolai Shilov has noted, despite the lack of active support from the leadership of the Komi and Arkhangelsk regions, issues of conservation and reproduction of Atlantic salmon are discussed more and more often in the regions. The salmon population reduction worries both fishermen, the tourist industry, local communities and scientific organizations not only in Komi and the Arkhangelsk Region, but also in Karelia and the Murmansk Region …
A lot of productive proposals for 2020 were presented. The Working Group members has noted that it is very useful to disseminate the AgroUdora cooperative experience to other districts of Komi, than they has discussed and approved the initiative to create a web resource on the Fisheries Rules.
