Interregional Workshop in Pyssa
It is well known that public awareness and accessibility of data related to the condition of the river resources, principles and tools of environmentally sound natural management, and sustainable management of resources are some of the most important areas of focus for the Foundation’s projects. The Udora district library network takes active part in this process, as it facilitates reader conferences, environmental summer open-air reading hall events, various workshops, lectures of the propaganda team about the river, etc.
The participants of the workshop in Pyssa, librarians from Leshukonye and Udora districts, got to know about the work of Udora’s rural libraries, discussed potential joint activities with regard to the Mezen project, had a tour which threw light on Bolshaya Pyssa’s history and present day life to them.
The experience exchange round turned out to be extremely useful. Professionals from the Leshukonye Inter-village Library also shared their practices, made a presentation of the district, informed about environmental education and regional study initiatives, and discussed details of participation in the joint celebration of the Mezen Day to be organized in summer this year for the first time with their Udora colleagues.
According to Zoya Fedotova, director of the Leshukonye Inter-village Library, the trip to Udora district, acquaintance with Bolshaya Pyssa, activity of Udora libraries presented at the meeting, and overall organization of the interregional workshop impressed the visitors. What’s more important, they acquired new contacts and new ideas for cooperation to raise public awareness and instruct them about preservation of the Mezen river resources.
Great assistance for the event was provided by Pyssa librarian Vera Musanova, head of the local Recreational Center Elena Loginova, administration of the village, school director E.V.Bukina, and the National Museum of Udora district, which exhibited traditional fishing tools of the Udora Komi people, showed around the exhibits on display for the visitors, played a game and arranged a quiz for the workshop participants.
